Things have continued to be interesting since God killed my car*. And by "interesting," I mean "I have gotten sick and my rental car's flimsy plastic front bumper is falling off because (as I am sure Hertz will agree) it is a CHEAP P.O.S."

But there are still absurd vids in the world, so all is well!

[livejournal.com profile] 4thofeleven unearthed this gem of a video warning us against digital piracy. I recommend watching it before scrolling down to read his comments. The surprise twist is... well, you'll just have to see for yourself.

nu!Trek goes goofy and retro in We Go Together. Yes, the song from Grease! You know you want to.

...I kinda want a second version with both TOS and AOS clips, because apparently they will always be together. And another TOS/AOS vid to "We Didn't Start the Fire." And a cheesy, sappy Spock/Uhura vid to "As the World Falls Down." And a Spock vid to Supertramp's "Logical Song." And a vid about Kirk being Spockblocked to "The Girl All the Bad Guys Want." And possibly "Bohemian Rhapsody," just because. And crack wherein the Enterprise crew decides to be pirates. (Sulu has a sword already! What else do they need?) IT IS JUST ONE OF THOSE MOODS OKAY? DON'T JUDGE ME.

*So claims my homeowners' association, anyway.** I can't verify this since God inexplicably failed to leave a note with His insurance information.
**AAA, however, says the falling branch was an Act of Nature, not God. I therefore conclude the tree was a Huorn, or perhaps a relative of Old Man Willow, out for revenge against our industrialized society.

Heh. [livejournal.com profile] plasticinecupid and I were just talking about this song recently, but it didn't occur to me to apply it to Buffy's love life. Have a vid!

So... after last week's episode, I am left wondering: WHO THE FRAK IS RUNNING THE FRAKKING FLEET NOW?!?

Fun links:

[livejournal.com profile] beccatoria has macros! BSG: Motivational Posters. "Because sometimes being married to a comatose super scientist robot sports star isn't weird enough," ha!

She's also involved in the production of a helpful PSA from the fifties about The Enemy Within (lesbian robots oh noes! and they're recruiting!).

But the award for Most Mind-Blowing Vid I've Seen This Year So Far goes to [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's Slow Down Gandhi. It critiques the Roslin/Adama administration and the mutineers. It's hard to pick a favorite moment, but the line "friendly fire - that's a funny word" accompanying a shot of Gaeta sitting in sick bay with his bandaged stump is up there. (The lyrics are as chewy and dense as some of the best poetry I've read, too. I think it's about critiquing people who give lip service to equity and standing up for "the little guy" while being just as corrupt and oppressive as the people they're supposedly against - see the line about "I had to agree to stop my marches/when they crucified Chris Columbus on the golden arches.")

In non-BSG news, Tobias Buckell has had to put the next Xenowealth book on hold because the first three only sold moderately well (he explains here). Damn it! I encourage everyone interested who can to go out and buy Crystal Rain, Ragamuffin, and Sly Mongoose. In a physical bookstore, because apparently that makes a difference in how they count sales for some arcane reason.

I will definitely be blogging about Ragamuffin and Sly Mongoose soon to persuade you all how awesome they are (haven't gotten to CR yet). For now, let me just say this: all sorts of chewy issues from xenophobia to the nature of democracy to violence to bulimia. Plus, there are Jamaicans and Aztecs IN SPAAAAACE! This includes kick-ass Jamaican cyborgs and Aztecs as both religious fanatic villains and (later) sympathetic teenage laborers. And zombies. Did I mention the zombies? You know you want that.

He's working on a different book, which also sounds awesome. I need a raise so I can support authors I like, seriously. Too bad that will not be happening...

ETA: David Anthony Durham is in the running for a Hugo! Despite the first sentence of Acacia: The War With the Mein throwing me (see here for context), I ended up loving the book, and will blog about that soon too. I can't wait for the next one.

Despite my not speaking German, I love the Die Arzte CD "13." You've got to love track 17, a protest song against protest songs.

Appropriately for Halloween, the album includes a song called "Der Graf," or "The Count." (No, not the Sesame Street one.) I found a translation for the lyrics, and they're pretty funny. The Count, as the song explains, is not a punk rocker - he's a vampire! He's feeling a little old and empty these days. He remembers when he was sexy and women loved him, but kids aren't scared of him anymore, he doesn't get all this new stuff about the ozone layer and nuclear power, he wants a virgin's blood but he's afraid of AIDS... Finally, he sits on a hill and cries and waits for the sun. (Okay, that part isn't funny.)

I found a music video for the song on YouTube, the site that almost always comes through. No idea whether this is the official music video, because I can't read the comments, but it could be.

In other vampire news, the latest Wizard of the Month on Rowling's site puzzles me. "Lorcan d'Eath [*groan*]: 1964 - present
Heartthrob singer, part vampire, nineteen weeks at number 1 with hit song 'Necks to You.' " Part vampire? How does that work, exactly? Are vampires a race rather than a werewolf-like infection in the Potterverse, or can you have part werewolves too?

Haha! I said I thought Palpatine should sing "Be Prepared," and three days later someone posts a Palpatine "Be Prepared" vid. It is lovely.
sunnyskywalker: Young Beru Lars from Attack of the Clones; text "Sunnyskywalker" (WhoLuke)
For Palpatine: "Be Prepared" from The Lion King and "Those Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid. (Hey, Anakin does lose his voice, in a way...)

For Anakin: "Different" by UVR. Anakin needs a good, cheery "whoops, I messed up" song to destroy the galaxy by.

I hadn't thought of this one, but I think Teenage Dirtbag is a great song for Luke. Yay for people who can actually make vids, and do it well!

And now for something completely different: for some reason, I remember one quote from my dreams very distinctly. "They're not zombies; they're peasants. You can't just go pick up an army of them!"

a) I guess my sleeping brain forgot about the third option, clones modified to be obedient.
b) Since when can you just go pick up an army of zombies? I don't think Wal-Mart carries them. Did the mysterious speaker mean Inferi?
c) Was this some bizarre dream-version of my medieval history class where we were discussing misconceptions about lord-peasant relations or something?
