It happens occasionally that I dream relatively coherent chunks of story. As in, has recognizable characters and a more or less recognizable plot, even if there are a lot of handwavy bits connecting the major incidents. Last night was one such time. In fact, I dreamed a frame narrative along with the story!

In my dream, I was working out the plot of the sequel to Indebted. It was much cooler than the way I work out stories when awake, in that here I could see the story in 3-D with surround sound as well as knowing what Chewie and Han were thinking. Plus, I could go back and re-do sections, or skip ahead to something I had planned out better. And the whole time, I was thinking, "This is great! When I wake up, I'll be able to write it all down and it'll be done!"

Of course, when I woke up I realized that escaping from the planet they're stuck on only to run into an army of creepy robots in space that respond in unison to whatever question you ask in the language you ask it (even if you ask one of the smaller Wookiee languages no one off Kashyyyk knows) might be just a little to early Bantam-era to work...

On the other hand, I learned a lot about Chewie! For instance, when someone at the spaceport realized something was fishy on the ship Han was using to smuggle Chewie off-planet and they had a daring escape in which Han performed some of his trademark crazy flying, Chewie freaked out more than in the asteroid field in ESB. Because he hasn't gotten used to Han's flying yet :D But also because while he's a decent enough pilot, he's like an average driver compared to the fighter pilot who is Han. And he's a little twitchy after being enslaved.

I also learned that Chewie's fur is horribly matted after not having proper care for oh, a few years, and desperately needs a shave - but that his knee-jerk reaction to someone trying to shave him is SCARY WOOKIEE with fangs and roaring. It is never good when Imperials hold you down and shave you, you see. (I haven't yet figured out what they do that for - possibly to get sites bare for injecting tranquilizing drugs or medical experimentation, or as a "vermin control" measure, or to shave away as much distinctive patterning as possible to erase identity.) Now, I had already figured Han would get a scare thoughtlessly shaking Chewie awake, but this helps fill out Chewie's post-traumatic state. Han does seem to have a problem recognizing others' personal space, too, and this would help fill that out.

Has anyone else had an experience like this?
