Fringe benefits of being a file clerk: the Films surround us, bind us, penetrate our office culture...

More proof that Star Wars really is everywhere. (As if we needed it.)

Until recently, I was a file clerk. This was not as boring as it sounds. For one thing, one of the owners of the company was a very geekily cool guy who would sometimes stop by to talk about LOTR, Cowboy Bepob, and, of course, Star Wars.

Another fringe benefit was listening to all the pages over the intercom. Every few weeks I would hear, "George Lucas on five-oh, George Lucas on five-oh!"

No, not the George Lucas. (At least I don't think so...) It was still fun to hear.

But the real clincher was the vending machine owner. I saw her every week, but never thought to ask her last name. We weren't really on a last name basis. But one day I happened to glance at her business card taped to the vending machine. And what do you think it said?

Solo!
