Even if it wasn't purposeful, her father and brother leaving was definitely the trigger for her magic. We do know that extreme emotional stress can hinder magical abilities (ex: Tonks). Opressive relatives can definitely be considered extreme emotional stress. After they left, what do ya know, no more stress!
