Yes, I think all of your themes are wrapped up in there! It's great that it is so multi-layered, not just a one-to-one "A represents B," because that works so well. And I really appreciate that they didn't make choosing trust and love look too easy. There are risks. Miriel trying to reforge friendship with the elves really might tear her kingdom apart, and going to war in Middle-earth will expose them to terrible dangers. Some of the Southlanders are in league with Sauron. The Stranger is a peril despite his goodness. Doing the right thing does not mean instant good results. I think Miriel had a speech about that--that it's committing to pay the price and trusting that the cost will eventually be worth it.

I think I saw somewhere that they had the actor read speeches from Milton's Satan in screen tests, which is so perfect.

I was being slightly tongue-in-cheek about Tom, but the writers are doing such a good job of surprising me with their craft that if they do announce him as a character in a future season, I'd be willing to trust that it would make sense until and unless proven otherwise :-) And he definitely is creepy. Did you ever see that not-entirely-a-joke post someone made about how Tom Bombadil is the supreme evil in Middle-earth?
