AFAIK the Hebrew editions simply transliterated the names, except Tom Riddle, of course - had to make the anagram work. Ron (as a name in its own right, not a short version of another name) is a common enough boy's name in Hebrew, it means joy or a happy song.
But the really fun thing is a factoid about the name Harry. Ashkenazic Jews who had Yiddish or Hebrew names sometimes took names in the language of the surrounding culture. The name Harry was often taken by guys named Herschel. And Herschel is Yiddish for deer. Couldn't have been a more appropriate name.
