Plus the colonies were essentially the boondocks, and there's evidence that the people back in England saw the colonists as a bunch of uncultured hicks. It took three months, give or take, just to get over there (iirc we've never heard of anyone Apparating across thousands of miles of ocean either, although it might be possible if they'd already been where they wanted to go and could picture it, and were exceptionally powerful). Plus there just weren't that many of them, relatively speaking. And the British were busy building their big bad empire, which the colonists didn't really pose a threat to. It was all "odd news" back in England unless one of the other major European powers was involved or something else that actually looked like it might affect England's investment.
