That's cool, actually! And--I don't know why, exactly, but I'm now wondering if you've read my current favorite historical mysteries? The Medicus series by Ruth Downie? They are funny, touching, and sometimes as disturbing and troubling as murder mysteries ought to be. I think her characters shine, especially Gaius Petreaus Ruso (the medicus) and Tilla, the young girl he rescues in the first book. They are set (mostly) in first-century Britain.
